Whyno Write Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

Overview

Whyno Write is a browser extension that helps you write on any website with three tools: Fix (spelling, grammar and clarity), Enhance (clearer prompts for AI chat sites) and Flow (turns what you say or type into a polished message). This policy explains what the extension reads, what it sends, and what is kept.

What the extension reads

The extension shows a small Whyno button next to the text box you are using. It reads the text in that box, or the text you have selected, only when you tap Fix, Enhance or Flow. It does not record your keystrokes, does not read pages in the background, and does not appear on password, email, phone or card-number fields.

Your voice

Flow can listen to your voice. The microphone is used only after you allow it and only while Flow shows that it is listening, with a recording indicator and timer. The recording is kept in memory, sent to be turned into text, and then discarded. Recordings are not stored by the extension or on our servers.

What is sent, and to whom

When you tap Fix, Enhance or Flow, the text (or Flow recording) is sent over the internet to the Whyno server, which passes it to our AI processing provider, Groq, to produce the result. The result is shown to you, and nothing changes on the page unless you choose Replace or Insert. We do not store the text you send, the results, or your recordings on our servers. For your convenience, the extension can keep your last five results in your own browser so a result is never lost. They stay on your device, are never sent anywhere, and you can turn this off or clear them in the extension menu. On Gmail, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn and Slack, when you tap Flow, the extension can also read the latest message you are replying to, so your reply fits it. That message is shown on the card, you can remove it before you speak, and it is sent with your request only for that reply and is not stored. You can switch this off in the extension menu. If you tap the thumbs-down on a result and confirm, your original text and that result are sent to us so we can fix what went wrong; nothing is sent unless you confirm. Snippets you save stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. When you remove the extension, your browser opens a short page on whyno.tech asking why; answering is optional, only what you type and tick is sent, and an email is kept only if you ask us to contact you.

Your account

Using the AI tools requires signing in with your Google account. Sign-in is handled by Google and Firebase Authentication (a Google service). The extension keeps your name, email address, profile photo and sign-in tokens in your browser's extension storage so you stay signed in. It also keeps your small settings there: which sites you turned the button off on, where you moved the button, and whether sounds are on. Whyno never sees your Google password.

What we keep

To provide a fair daily allowance and to understand how the product is used, our server keeps, for each account: an account identifier, when it was created and last used, and daily counts per tool (number of requests, successes and failures, how many characters were sent and returned, seconds of audio, and response times). These counts never include the text or audio itself.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the providers named above that are needed to run the service. We do not use your text or voice to train AI models. The extension does not include advertising or third-party analytics.

Your choices

You can sign out at any time from the extension's menu, which removes your account details from the browser. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser. To have the usage counts for your account deleted, contact us at privacy@whyno.tech.

Children

Whyno Write is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Whyno Write handles data, we will update this page and its date. Significant changes will also be shown in the extension.
